Real Life Confectionery Themed Budget Wedding – Rachel and Arwel
Rachel married Arwel in September, two months before their ten year anniversary! Rachel tells us a little bit about how she created the wedding she wanted on a £13K budget…
Tell us a little bit about how you got engaged?
Quite simple - he popped the question while feeding our then eight-month-old breakfast on Christmas morning in 2009!
What was your favourite part of planning your wedding?
Picking the dress after trying what felt like hundreds on! Closely followed by choosing the venue.
Did you have quite a tight budget to stick to and how did you make the most of it?
We had aimed to be within £10,000; however I fell in love with a dress and wedding ring that was over budget. We did manage to stay close to it though, by calling in favours from willing friends and family! I still blew our budget though at £13,000.
What is your best money saving tip for other brides on a budget?
Keep it small (if you can!), be realistic and always ask for a discount when making your bookings.
Who were your favourite budget wedding suppliers?
Well Emma Phillips Bridal was extremely helpful, and the girls from Full Fat Fun had fantastic ideas and were really supportive.
Did you do much DIY?
I made my own wedding stationary, with the help of my mum and her best friend.
What did you enjoy most on your wedding day?
All of it...I'd love to do it again!!
How did you decide on a theme for your wedding day?
Initially we didn't have a theme, only a colour, but as time went on and we booked a Candy Cart from Full Fat Fun, we went with a classy Cadbury purple and a quirky sweet theme!! We gave each table a sweet name and each guest had a shot glass of that sweet including bon bons, love hearts, sherbet lemons!
What would be your best piece of advice for all of our other Budget Bride Company readers?
You can have what you want, you don't have to sacrifice the little things that do make a difference to you, just do plenty of research and always ask if suppliers can do you a better price. But most of all enjoy it!
