A Western Barn Wedding Styled Shoot

A Western Barn Wedding Styled Shoot

Back at the end of July, I was thrilled to get together with the amazingly talented Danielle Mobbs to create our second styled shoot together.

Having worked on a vintage themed wedding styled shoot last Summer, we wanted to try something really different and decided on working with a Barn theme with a Western ranch feel twist. Danielle is quite a regular in the States and brought along her authentic cowboy boots to feature in the shoot!

A Western Barn Wedding Styled Shoot

We chose Brampton Grange as the perfect venue for our Western Barn Wedding Styled Shoot thanks to its incredible setting in the Northamptonshire countryside. The Venue has a beautiful manor house with gardens, converted barns and stables – giving us loads of gorgeous photo opportunities to fit in with our theme. And when we found out that the lovely Wedding Co-ordinator Tracey kept her horse there, we jumped at the chance to feature him in the shoot 🙂

We chose our suppliers to bring the Western Barn Styled Shoot ideas to life very carefully. We were really lucky to work with some super talented companies that understood exactly what we wanted to achieve!

Big thanks to these guys for bringing their talent to the shoot…

Sell My Wedding – Supplier Spotlight

Sell My Wedding - The marketplace for pre-loced wedding items

Today, we’re talking with one of our fave ladies – Rebecca Aspin from the brilliant budget friendly website that is Sell My Wedding. You can find Sell My Wedding in our Budget Wedding Supplier Directory across all 11 regions of the UK. Over to you Rebecca!

Hello, I am Rebecca Aspin (34) founder of Sellmywedding.co.uk an online marketplace where newlyweds can sell their pre-loved wedding items to brides-to-be. The website re-launched with a new look in January 2014 and is helping brides across the UK recycle their weddings – from the wedding dress to the venue decorations.

Sell My Wedding - The marketplace for pre-loced wedding items

What is your favourite thing about working with Brides to Be?
The wedding industry has changed dramatically since I myself got married in 2007. Not only have wedding trends changed but the daily inspiration from wedding blogs mean that brides-to-be have so much inspiration. Already married, I love the fact that I can immerse myself in this beautiful, inspirational and creative industry on a daily basis. I love the interaction with our users, both brides-to be (our buyers) and newlyweds (our sellers) and seeing the fantastic weddings that they have planned or plan to have.

What inspires you in your work?
Creativity, this fabulous industry and some fabulous colleagues I have met along the way! I want to create a fun, pretty and inspirational online marketplace where brides-to-be can not only get some great bargains but can also get ideas and inspiration from other brides.

Sell My Wedding - The marketplace for pre-loced wedding items

I recently took part in a shoot at Saltmarshe Hall in East Yorkshire, the aim was to show how items sourced from charity shops, or those lying around your home, could be turned into fabulous wedding decor. From old light fittings to broken picture frames, to items found in your Grandma’s haberdashery box – I was really pleased with what we came up with.
We used the photos on our homepage as part of our website relaunch in January and we also listed the items so that brides-to-be could create the same look. It was great to see these items fly off the site.

We are not just a second-hand classified site but a beautiful online marketplace. Sellers that do really well on Sell My Wedding are those who list a number of items from their wedding and who take the time tell their story of their wedding on their profile page, which is in essence what the site is all about. We had one seller who literally sold her entire wedding – bunting, decor, dress – within 24 hours to the same buyer.

What has been your favourite wedding that you have worked on?
I recently had the pleasure to style an industry friend’s wedding – wedding photographer Gabrielle Bower. She had a retro, music and travel inspired wedding and I worked with Gabs and her husband Matt to come up with ideas to style the venue, sourcing items from Sell My Wedding as well as charity shops and car boot sales. We used old vinyl to display cakes and as centrepieces, Polaroid’s on sticks, old vintage cameras and suitcases and lots of other cool props which really showed the couples personality. I was so pleased with how it came together and the wedding has recently been featured on Love My Dress.

Do you have any wedding trend predictions for weddings for 2014?
We are continuing to see lots of rustic and vintage inspired weddings. I love the fact that newlyweds are listing the items that they have made and these are proving popular, as brides-to-be can get the DIY look without having to do any of the DIY themselves.

Sell My Wedding - The marketplace for pre-loced wedding items
We are also seeing lots of art deco, Hollywood glamour inspired weddings. Classic white and glitter are also trends that we are starting to see come through.

What would be your top tip to share with Brides to Be?
Don’t be afraid to buy preloved – just because it’s a wedding, everything does not need to be brand new.
If you are looking for a 1950s style wedding dresses you should definitely search for a preloved dress first. As the dresses are short they do not have marks or wear and tear from trailing on the ground.
Also if you are looking for centrepieces or decor, buying secondhand is a great way to keep the costs down as you can buy and then resell after your own wedding.

Sell My Wedding - The marketplace for pre-loced wedding items

When you’re not busy working at Sell My Wedding, what is your favourite pastime?
My day job is in public sector PR and with two boys, aged 4 and 1, plus a dog and a husband, and an online business life is a bit of a juggling act. I love spending quality time with my family, we live just 20 minutes from the Yorkshire Coast so a leisurely day at the beach would be the perfect way to spend the day.

Beautiful Styled Wedding Photoshoot at Cogges Farm Wheat Barn

We do love a bit of Thursday morning wedding inspiration here at The Budget Bride Company! When the lovely Olivia, from Host Event Management who offer fantastic wedding planning services, let us know about a styled photo shoot that she had just worked on, we leaped at the chance to share it with all of you.

From the soft twinkling lights to the beautiful rustic touches throughout the shoot, we hope that you can lift some amazing ideas from this shoot for your own wedding day.

The shoot was held at the very idyllic setting of Cogges Manor Farm in the Oxfordshire Cotswold Town of Witney.  The Wheat Barn was used, which is now available to hold country style weddings and events and has a license to hold civil ceremonies.

Olivia says “I knew as soon as I saw the venue that I wanted to work with it in some capacity.  The Cotswold stone walls, the canopy of exposed beams coupled with a warm and inviting atmosphere got my creative head spinning! I contacted a team of wedding professionals who are based in the area and they gladly accepted to work on this project.”

We wanted to fit in with the style and natural ambience of the barn, so we decided on muted tones and rustic textures. We chose to use long tables as we wanted the room to have an informal feel.  Wooden fold up chairs with floral seat pads courtesy of local firm BHK Rentals set the look off, along with a very old farmyard cart which was sprinkled with fairy lights and really made the room come alive!

In terms of the styling we used white table linen and classic table ware, lace edged hessian table runners, pot plants, rustic and classic stationery and  pink and blue bunting to embellish the space.

The flowers were produced by Tracey from Distinctive Petals and really fit in well with the country style. The use of long tables naturally lead to using lots of small arrangements; jam jars were heavily incorporated, which are continuing to be a very popular trend for weddings. These were decorated with lace, twine and hessian to compliment the table runners.

Old fashioned milk bottles made an appearance, which really complimented the farm environment alongside some wrapped plants to complete the natural country garden theme.

Bundles of wheat were used with the table numbers – as we were working in The Wheat Barn, it seemed a natural choice to make! These were placed on rough wood off cuts with tea lights surrounding them giving a romantic look.

The real welcome addition to the barn itself was the courtyard area just outside. This was dressed as a relaxed lounge area with hay bale seating, floral fabrics, bay trees, flowers, the table plan and more bunting. You can imagine a hog roast or barbeque being served on a balmy Summers’ evening here.  We even had visits from the resident chickens and lambs!

As a focal point for the outside area, Tracey made a large jug of flowers with winding twigs and a selection of very seasonal flowers. Peonies, 'Boombastic' Spray Roses, Phlox, Cornflowers, Bluebells and again, lots of wheat. Attached to the twigs was the table plan, displayed on bundles of hay covered in a Cath Kidston style fabric which provided a lovely focal display at the guests would enter the reception barn.

As we were lucky enough to have the wonderful Katy- Lula to model, a bridal bouquet was created. The soft texture of Peonies against the harsher wheat, gave a great contrast. Colour was added by including some very delicate forget-me-nots and Lilac which was picked from Tracey’s garden! The hand tied posy was finished off with a hessian style ribbon and pearl pins to compliment the rest of the designs in the barn as well as the bride’s pearl jewellery.

Samantha from The Pretty Cake Company created a petite three tier ivory wedding cake trimmed with pale champagne satin ribbon and an ivory lace overlay. Sugar arrangements of ivory blush roses, white stocks and wheat were used to decorate. A small lace bow on the bottom tier finishes the look. The cake is displayed on a vintage glass pedestal cake stand and housed in an ornate cast iron display stand.

Jessica Mills our make-up and hair artist went for a boho inspired look with the hair and very natural makeup on Katy-Lula.  Pearl jewellery was added to give a classic wedding  look.

Neil Hanson photographed the details so well, and Justin and Alison from Vogue Wedding Films created a ‘behind the scenes’ view for us, which is so nice to look back on as we all had such fun working on this shoot!

You can check out the Behind the Scenes Video here!

A Sun Dappled Vintage Wedding Shoot at Barton Hall

I’m really pleased to share this vintage themed wedding shoot with you today, brought together by a team of passionate wedding suppliers in the East Midlands. Amanda from Something Borrowed Bridal talked us through the ideas behind the shoot…

“So much work and preparation is put into planning a wedding and huge amounts of commitment and organisation are required even when it is a wedding photo shoot! Then there is the weather, will it rain or will the sun shine gloriously down upon us to produce images the photographer can work with to dazzle us with in years to come?  Well on this occasion the gods were feeling generous as we arrived at Barton Hall to create the most perfect day, a wedding photo shoot to inspire all brides to be!"

“We had all worked together as a team, a collaboration of some of the best wedding suppliers in the local area to produce awe inspiring wedding scenes to whet your appetite!”

“We decided to use the incredible venue of Barton hall with its handsome and bold house frontage; delicate and beautiful orangery with fabulous intricate iron work on the glass panels and breath-taking glass domes in the ceiling, creating rainbows of light throughout.”

“This fabulous architecture is topped with the beautiful sloping Gardens.  I am a bit of a romantic and was bowled over by the natural beauty of this venue, even the stone benches under the ancient trees added glamour to the garden. The beautiful trees within the grounds added stunning focal points to the gardens and added beautifully to the photos taken by Sarah-Jane of Daring to Dream Photography.”

“We had a selection of ladies modelling who all were made all the more lovely by Ainsley and Gracie Lou who worked non stop during the day, whilst simultaneously watching her two toddlers who were intent on escape. They really showed their talent at remaining calm and turning already beautiful ladies into movie stars, just as all brides to be deserve.”

“Five of the models were dressed by Carolyn’s Collection in mother of the bride outfits and sported some incredible outfits and spectacular hats.”

“Our handsome male models were dressed by Vickers Menswear, as was the younger member of the wedding party. they all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the wedding shoot with plenty of time for mischief and climbing trees!”

“One cheeky member of the wedding party even ran off with the bride!”

“We had three unique beautiful brides who were all styled in wedding dresses from Something Borrowed Bridal.  The focus of the day was a Vintage theme and each of the dresses was planned to encapsulate that.

The beautiful co-ordinating flowers were created with love and attention by Charlotte Davies. From the magnificent vintage headdress that makes such a statement, to the loosely tied vintage bouquet. The scent of the blooms filled the room beautifully.”

“We had a gorgeous little bridesmaid for the wedding photo shoot who worked the role of princess perfectly!”

“The bride arrived in style in a Vintage VW Camper van from Fun Dubbin Occasions perfect for the vintage theme.”

“The bride crossed the breath-taking lawns for the ceremony shoot to take place in the orangery, which had been styled in a vintage fashion by Through the Looking Glass Events and Charlotte Davies Flowers, with a beautiful aisle laid with vases of flowers at each end.”

“I love how the models truly got into part – look at the emotion in this picture!”

“The Orangery was once more transformed by Through the Looking Glass events into the reception venue with round tables adorned with vintage china, candelabras, and bunting decorated the walls.”

“Everything about this wedding shoot spoke of charm, nostalgia and elegance. The incredibly styled wedding cake was a perfect touch - in a duck egg blue by Cakes from the Heart.”

“For the evening shoot, the wedding party and guests relaxed in the opulent Vines Restaurant, after what had been a brilliant day and certainly one to remember for everyone involved!”

Thank you so much to Amanda from Something Borrowed Bridal for sending in this Vintage themed photo shoot! I hope that it has given you some great inspiration for your wedding day.

A Vintage Styled Wedding Photo Shoot – Introducing The Berkshire Wedding Community

I am very excited today to bring you an inspiring photo shoot from one of our favourite Budget Bride Company Suppliers today. Jo Richards of Jo Richards Photography and Andrea Fearon of Andrea Fearon Floral Design have brought together some of Berkshire’s best Wedding Suppliers to give you a group of trusted vendors to work with on your wedding day – The Berkshire Wedding Community. They are a small group of wedding suppliers, all based in Berkshire, and most are self-employed working mums.

All of the suppliers within The Berkshire Wedding Community are happy to work with Brides on any Budget, and you can find more price details on the individual company websites as listed below.  Jo Richards tailor makes her photography packages based on your needs and is offering a  15% discount to all full price packages booked within May and June. If you mention The Budget Bride Company when speaking to one of the Berkshire Wedding Community suppliers, they may be able to secure a small discount too.

We asked Jo how this collaboration of suppliers came about.

The BWC was dreamt up at a kitchen table by a photographer and a florist. Andrea Fearon and I were looking to put together some promotional work with some other wedding suppliers, but the wedding industry is a minefield of literally thousands of suppliers. Trying to find suppliers with which to work, without knowing who were experienced professionals, and who were new to the industry, we saw a need for a trusted group of suppliers that could provide today's brides with a reliable, professional and friendly service that would meet all of their wedding needs.

As a team, and as individuals, we all strive to help brides create the day of their dreams, without taking over. We work closely with our clients to make their visions a reality, working with brides with all budgets, and by having a group of trusted suppliers to work with we are able to offer our clients great recommendations for all their wedding requirements.

With wedding trends changing, and brides wanting their own unique style for their day we asked the ladies how they adapt their work to each wedding.

Jane Howell from Iced Gems answered; 'with years of experience of creating beautiful cakes I can recommend sizes of cakes and quantities they would feed. As it is my passion I’m always excited to work with a bride who has a vision of what her perfect cake will look like.

Sarah Fuller from ‘Sarah Fuller Wedding Hair’ works hard to make sure she can provide the latest styles, she replied. “I have had the privilege of styling many brides’ hair. Every year is getting busier and I like to ensure my brides get the very best out of me; I participate in long hair educational courses in London with award winning wedding hairstylists. I have recently achieved a Patrick Cameron diploma in long hair styling and value all of the knowledge I have gained from one of the best long hair stylists in the world, I am very proud to be able to use these specialised skills to create my brides’ beautiful wedding hair dream.”

To showcase their work, the Berkshire Wedding Community recently put together the vintage photo shoot that you can see in this post.

Andrea Fearon said “The vintage shoot was amazing. The whole Berkshire Wedding Community team came together with a common vision and collectively we created something truly beautiful. I'm very proud of the resulting images!”

Jo Richards thinks that the photo shoots are a great way of keeping skills fresh and on trend.  Discussing the recent photo shoot she said “The members of the Berkshire Wedding Community are constantly adding to their knowledge and skills set by working together on promotional photo shoots, wedding events and fairs and meeting regularly to discuss current wedding trends. This all combines to provide our brides with the best service the wedding industry has to offer.”
