Budget Bride to Be – Emma is planning a Purple Themed Wedding with lots of Butterflies

Cute Purple Save the Date

Emma and Ash are going to be getting married next year at a Purple Themed Wedding with lots of DIY wedding touches. We had a chat with Emma to find out about her wedding story so far...

My other half's name is Ash and we met  six years ago when Ash started working as an apprentice at my Dad's company. Ash was told never to go anywhere near his bosses daughter! Ash later left the company but we remained friends and started talking again in April when I wrote on Facebook that I had booked my flights to Canada for a holiday. He asked if he could come in my suitcase and we haven’t stopped talking from there!

We got engaged on 21st November 2013; we had been having a rubbish week with some housing problems and had gone to visit my Sister and her family for some dinner. About half hour after we arrived I was handed my then four month old niece and asked to get her ready for bed. I began getting her ready whilst chatting with the family. After unbuttoning her top, I continued talking until I noticed she was wearing a baby vest with the words "Will you marry uncle Ash?" printed across the front! I couldn’t speak and looked up as Ash got down on one knee next to me, ring in hand.

Aorable baby grow proposal!

I am loving the whole process of planning our wedding. We’ve been to lots of wedding shows and wedding fairs and received different ideas from each. We have searched daily for different deals and bargains and are going to be doing some of the bits ourselves to keep a price down. My sister – who is my Maid of Honour - has handmade our Save the Date Invites and she will be making our Wedding Invitations too. We have found lots of cheap but perfect wedding items on Ebay. We also decided to buy bio-degradable paper from Ebay in our Wedding theme colours to make our own confetti. We have also purchased a butterfly shape cutter as this is a major part of our theme too.

Purple and white handmade wedding confetti

We get married in May 2015, so we have started collecting wedding decorations and creating DIY wedding projects now so that we don’t have to pay out a lot of money all in one go.

Emma and Ash are having a purple themed DIY Wedding in 2015

On my wedding day I am looking forward to seeing all our plans and ideas come together and spending my day with our family, but most of all I can’t wait to become MRS HALL!

Enjoy the rest of the planning Emma and we can’t wait to hear all about the day itself and see your pictures!

We had a chat with Claire to find out more…

Tell us your favourite thing about working with brides to be?

It's such a special time - such excitement, and it's great to be a part of that. It's also a huge privilege to be a part of someone's special day.

What inspires you in your work?

Anything and everything! Sometimes very random things like a pattern on fabric or colour combinations. A dress, or even a hat! Ideas can just pop up, so I like to keep a notebook to jot my thoughts down in.

What has been your favourite wedding that you have worked on so far?

I did a 200 cupcake tower last summer - covered in purple butterflies, with a giant cupcake at the top. That was great fun, and a huge success apparently! Getting feedback from the Brides is always nice.

Claires Sweet Temptations 1

What are your wedding trend predictions for the rest of 2014 and going into 2015?

There are always so many trends in the mix. Fabric effect flowers are very popular right now, especially in neutral colours. Hand painting on cakes is getting more and more popular too. Then there are things like edible gelatine sequins to add extra sparkle which will definitely be popular.

What would your top tip be to share with Brides to Be?

Don't be afraid to be creative. There are endless possibilities in wedding cake these days! And remember it’s your day and your cake. So make sure you have exactly  what you've always dreamed of.

When you're not busy working at Claire's Sweet Temptations, what is your favourite pastime?

I love travelling. I've been very lucky and travelled a lot, but still want to go so many places!

You can find out more about the gorgeous cakes that Claire can create for your wedding on her Facebook page and on her website here – or get in touch directly to discuss your budget wedding cake requirements on 07816288626 or by Email on clairelpotts@gmail.com

Heavenly Delight Candy Cart – Sumptuous on Saturday Supplier Spotlight

Heavenly Delight Candy Cart

I’m very pleased to introduce you to our latest Budget Bride Company Supplier – Heavenly Delight Candy Cart who you can find in our East Midlands Hire Category.

Heavenly Delight are a talented team headed up by the lovely and very talented Nicki. Heavenly Delight are specialists in Candy Cart Hire, and can also create beautiful bespoke sugar flower sprays to individulaise your wedding cake whilst keeping your wedding budget nicely in check!

We had a catch up with Nicki to find out more about Heavenly Delight...

What is your favourite thing about working with Brides to Be?
It’s so lovely to be able to help inspire brides in making their day that extra bit more special. Seeing the excitement on their faces as they envisage their special day coming into reality is such a privilege.

Heavenly Delight Flower Spray Cake Toppers

What inspires you in your work?
I love helping people find ways of making their dreams come true, that extra special touch. Giving them inspiration of how to reach their goals and keep their costs to a minimum.

What has been your favourite wedding that you have worked on?
It was actually my own wedding; we spent a total of £12,000 but had a wedding that wowed our guests who thought we had spent £40,000.

Do you have any wedding trend predictions for weddings for 2014?
I think our wonderful brides to be are getting hands on for 2014. By making those important Save the Date cards, Invitations and Order of Service yourself can save you a packet, and something the bridesmaids will enjoy helping you with giving you a wonderful celebration of achievement.

What would be your top tip to share with Brides to Be?
We all want the Wedding of our dreams, but not the costs. Here at Heavenly Delight that is our aim to help people achieve this. Make your invitations etc. and have fun making your own table centre pieces for your tables. It brings out your personality into your day. How about getting a friend or loved one to make your cake, or purchase a plain one from Marks & Spencer’s, then putting on one of our hand crafted sugar flower sprays to transform the cake into something specular. Cutting costs down in these areas can then allow you to elaborate those “really would love” items, for example the Candy Cart or those sparkly top table back drops.

Heavenly Delight Favours

When you’re not busy working at Heavenly Delight what is your favourite pastime?
I love spending time with my family and helping out at the local school with fundraising ideas. One of my passions is singing. I recently released an album entitled “The Journey” all the songs are written and sung by myself and this album is helping to raise funds for Children’s Heart Charities. The album is available on itunes and amazon.com but also in hard copy from myself via www.nickidaniel.co.uk

You can find out more about Heavenly Delight at http://www.heavenlydelight.co.uk/ And they currently have a special offer for Budget Bride Company readers a half price secure the date booking fee. Quote BB1 at time of booking.  You can also spread the cost with a monthly payment plan option 🙂

A creative and colourful DIY Budget Wedding for £5,000 – Ivanya and Peter

Real life Budget Wedding - Ivanya and Peter

Ivanya and Peter were married September last year in a tiny medieval church near Folkestone. With a tight budget of £5000, Ivanya really went to town with her creativity, ensuring that her and Peter could throw a DIY Budget Wedding to be proud of!

Ivanya, tell us how you and Peter met?
We initially met through my best friend Charlotte and his best friend Ashley, who happen to be brother and sister. The first time was on a New Year’s Eve get together; I walked in and thought ‘he’s handsome’, but unfortunately he didn’t say very much! Then, later the next year I went to Charlotte’s Blessing, and there was Peter again. We had a group photo, all huddled in together and there were Peter and I on the end - with him standing about a foot away from me! Turns out he was shy around me  So it took a drunken encounter in a dodgy nightclub, before we actually properly spoke for the first time and the rest is history!

What was your total wedding budget?
£5,000 and we didn’t go over! We did get some help from our relatives however – my sister in law made our cupcakes and my Mum bought my dress, so we were very lucky in that respect.

Tell us about the day…
The service and atmosphere was stunning and we were so lucky that as the vicar announced us as married and we turned round to face the congregation, a stream of sunlight flooded through the windows and lit us up! It really set the tone for a gorgeous wedding day.
DIY Budget Wedding - Ivanya and Peter

The church was decorated by some local ladies, who charged a reasonable price and after the Ceremony, we were able to take some of these flowers to the reception hall, to add some extra decoration.
I had bought fairy lights and beaded silver coasters chargers etc to decorate the hall in the Christmas sales. All alcohol for the tables and toasts I bought when Sainsbury's had offers on wine and half price Brut. It cost under£200 for 75 people! As it was my first order online, I also received a discount. I took advantage of lots of company’s offers for first time online ordering which helped and I got my bunting and paper pom poms and cup cake holders on offer from Lakelands.

Village Hall Budget Wedding

DIY Budget Wedding table styling

We really wanted this DIY budget wedding to be fun, comfortable and unofficial for families! We had a village hall for our wedding reception venue with a local band called Liquid Jacket playing and a Spotify playlist for DJ afterwards!

Budget DIY Wedding

Budget Wedding Entertainment

We know that you’re a creative kind of girl – what did you do to make this DIY Budget Wedding a success?

I made myself a brooch bouquet with lots of sentimental pieces incorporated within it, which I used as a decoration on our table at reception , as didn't look right with my last minute dress!

Budget Wedding Button Bouquet

I scoured charity shops and antique markets and collected lots of glassware and ceramic pieces to use as reception decoration and to create a sweet table for favours. I sewed all of the favour bags for the sweets, with an initial on each.

Budget wedding table decorations DIY
I had some of my bridesmaids round one evening and we decorated picture frames with famous quotes about love as our table numbers. My bridesmaid made the most fabulous table plan out of a canvas, string, luggage labels and flowers . We also decorated jam jars for flowers on tables.
Budget Wedding Table Plan

I designed my own invite cards. There ended up being quite a lot of cutting out and assembling involved and two of my bridesmaids helped with this - it really did take a lot of man (lady!) hours to do these - more than I thought.

Budget Wedding DIY Decoration Ideas

Tell us about the Dress!
I managed to get my dress last minute, after two unsuccessful attempts to make my own. I ended up with a designer dress worth over £1100 for £600! I can certainly recommend not leaving it too late to create your own wedding dress! Make sure your dress (if you are mad enough to make your own!) is made well in advance. I kept putting it off! I did a lot of research into dress shapes for my body shape, but when I made it and put it on, it just wasn’t as flattering as I had hoped.
Budget DIY Wedding

What would be your top tips to share with other brides wanting a DIY Budget Wedding?
I got all my bridesmaid dresses and shoes in sales and opted for dressy dresses instead of official bridesmaid dresses, which saved a bundle. They ended up about £30 each. Ditto for the children’s outfits - I got Amelie’s dress after Christmas in Monsoon sale. I also bought my jewellery in the after sales as lots of sparkly things are reduced at this time, so forward thinking is really helpful on the accessories front. I managed to get the sweets for the favours from a cash and carry, which saved a bit and making the sweet pouches was also a great money saver.

Budget DIY Wedding

I work in a hairdresser’s, so was very fortunate that they did my hair for me. My friend, who is also a Beauty Therapist did my make up too. As she didn’t have any prior bridal experience, I bought my own make up and we had fun with a few trials before the wedding. I made really good use of the different make up counters and in the end had 4 different make up trials, just by going in and saying I wanted to buy some make up for my wedding. I picked up loads of great tips from the makeup artists, which I wrote down afterwards, in case I forgot, and made a note of which piece of makeup I liked best. I then mixed and matched with the brands I had tried, to get the best items from each company.

Bride on a £5k Budget - Ivanya

What was your favourit moment of the day?
The church ceremony was absolutely magical. The atmosphere and light in the church was beautiful. The ceremony was funny (thanks to the wonderful vicar) and poignant. All the right people were there and we felt truly blessed we’d made it! That was the favourite part for us both, closely followed by the dancing 🙂

 
Our Wedding Photographer Andy, set up an impromptu photo booth and we got some really fun photos from this later on in the evening, when the vino had been flowing!

Thanks so much for sharing your lovely DIY Budget Wedding Day with us - top tips too! Congratulations to you both :D

Mood Board Monday – Florals and Vintage

OK, I have a confession to make – I could literally spend all day looking at Vintage and Floral themed weddings, so this mood board has been even more of a delight for me to put together than usual!

I just love the romance of Vintage Floral – and I especially adore how easy it can be to get hold of decorations when you’re on a tight budget. Mismatched is good, home made is fab, upcycled is the order of the day. And it can be so much fun searching for all of the little elements at car boot sales, charity shops and on ebay.

Wedding Fairs and how they can help you plan your wedding

Budget Bride Live Wedding Fairs
Photo Credit: Keith Bloomfield via photopin cc

Once the news has been announced that you and your beau are getting married, the cards have been displayed and the champagne has been quaffed, the time will come for you to get on with the actual planning of your wedding.

Some people are born planners. They live to organise a party, they are the ones putting their hands up to sort the next work night out or to host a pampered chef evening. But some of us find it a little more tricky!

Organising a wedding can be like planning one of the biggest parties that you will ever hold (dependant on the type of do you are planning, of course!) and that can be a daunting task. That’s where Wedding Fairs come in. These events can be a fantastic opportunity to meet with lots of wedding suppliers all under one roof in a non-pressurised environment.

I for one, always need to compare and contrast what is on offer to me, before I make a move. So with that in mind, here are my top five reasons for why attending a wedding fair is definitely worth your while…

1. BIG time save! The chance to meet lots of wedding suppliers under one roof means way less time traipsing round lots of different towns or spending hours on tonnes of different websites trying to locate different suppliers for each element of your wedding. Going to a well organised wedding fair will mean that you can see a selection of different specialists for every part of your wedding under one roof, usually with a time investment of under a couple of hours on your part.

2. You get to meet your supplier in person. This is a big trust builder and can definitely be the tipping point between choosing one wedding supplier over another. Does the florist just *get* what you are trying to achieve? Does the photographer have a style which is perfectly in line with the look you are going for? It can be a fabulous opportunity to see if your supplier is on your wavelength.

3. The chance to get tactile… Seeing a wedding invitation online is one thing, but turning it over in your hand, feeling the weight of the card and the quality of the materials can make it much easier to make those tricky decisions on which products you want to commit to.

4. Deals and Offers. You will often find that suppliers have fantastic offers available to those who make a booking on the day of the Fair. Take advantage of any discounts offered and you may find yourself shaving a hefty chunk from your allowed budget.

5. Ticking the boxes… Taking your your best friend with you to a wedding fair is a surefire way to get an honest opinion on whether something is going to work – or not. Listen to the advice of the suppliers and that of your BFF and you can start ticking a few of those to do tasks from your list.

Our Budget Bride Live Wedding Fairs are completely free to attend when you pre-register. We ensure that there is a fantastic spread of different supplier types for you to chat with. Coupled with a goody bag and a glass of fizz when you arrive, it really is a great way to start off your wedding planning.

Our next Fairs are running in the East Midlands region at The Eden Centre in Kettering on Sunday 2nd February from 3pm to 7pm and at The Ruby Lounge at Diana’s  in Wellingborough on Sunday 16th February from 11am to 3pm.

The Budget Bride Team are always on hand in the Reception Area at any of our venues to have a chat with you and help you with any wedding planning questions you might have!

There are a wealth of wedding fairs that run throughout the year , make the most of those running locally to you and have a fun day out to really get into planning your wedding with experts who can really help 🙂

The importance of Wedding Mood Boards and how they can help you plan your wedding

Purple Wedding Mood Board

One of the best things to do when you first get engaged - if not before 😉 - is to create a Mood Board for your ideal wedding.

Mood Boards, also known as Vision Boards, Theme Boards and Inspiration Boards, can be a great way to put together all of those ideals that you have in your mind and to keep all of your favourite images in one place. It’s also an incredibly handy way to convey to your suppliers exactly what it is that you’re after.

We are going to be running a new regular feature on the Blog – Mood Board Mondays – where we will be focusing on a different style or colour theme each week to help kick you off with your wedding mood board planning.

Wedding Mood Board Inspiration

When you get engaged, it can seem like you have a massive mountain of wedding planning to climb, but by creating your first wedding mood board, you will hone in on that lovely feeling of creating a day that is unique to your tastes and will really show off what you and your partner are about.

Wedding planning can be stressful, I admit it, but the overriding feeling should be FUN – afterall you’re marrying the love of your life 🙂

How you create your mood board is up to you. Do you love the digital? You may want to go down the Pinterest route, like we do. As well as having the entire internet as your playground for searching for wedding eye candy, it is incredibly easy to use, free, and can be amended and refreshed whenever you fancy. Search for exactly what you are after and create your special board to collect all of your inspiration. You can also create secret boards, if you would prefer to keep your wedding themes private, or as a surprise for your guests.

White, Pink and Gold Wedding Mood Board Inspiration

If you are more crafty, and love getting busy with glue and cardboard, then a physical mood board will be a delight for you. Catalogues, glossy magazines, product packaging and swatches of material can be collected and arranged on your board. There is something wonderfully tactile and exciting about creating a mood board that you can actually feel.

Wedding Mood Board

Another, less structured way of creating a mood board, is to collect all of your swatches and cut outs and keep them in a box. This means that you can play around with the items, seeing which goes well with the other and enabling you to easily take certain items to your suppliers to show them the exact colour, or feeling, that you are after.

There really are no rules, and if you feel most comfortable and inspired by creating your mood board on the fridge door, with lots of magnets – then so be it! The important thing is to have a designated place for you to collect all of your favourite snippets of style. Having a mood board (or box!) can really help you to bring all of your ideas into one place and will clearly tie together your dreams and ideas.

I’d love to hear if you have a mood board in place yet and how it has helped you with your planning? Let us know in the comments box below!
